A.J. Cook became Of Counsel to Pietrangelo Cook in 1997. He is a member of the Tennessee and Texas Bars.

He graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with a Bachelor of Science degree. He attained his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas and his doctorate of laws degree from St. Mary’s University Law School in San Antonio.

Mr. Cook is a Certified Public Accountant who was partner in charge of tax services for the Memphis office of Ernst & Young until his retirement in 1984 after 24 years of service.

His weekly newspaper column, “A.J.'s Tax Fables,” is distributed nationally by Scripps-Howard News Service. He is the author of the book A.J.’s Tax Court, which offers a review of court decisions affecting individual taxpayers. He has written tax articles for Nation’s Business, Taxation for Accountants, In Business and Financial and Estate Planning.

Mr. Cook has served as President of both the Memphis and San Antonio Estate Planning Councils; as Trustee of the Tennessee Federal Tax Institute; Chairman of the Tax, Probate and Trust Section of the Tennessee Bar; and Tax Counsel for the Memphis Bar.

During his years in the Texas office of Ernst & Young, he served for five years as mayor of Castle Hills, a city near San Antonio.

Mr. Cook’s interests include volunteer service on a wide range of community improvement projects sponsored by the Rotary Club of Memphis and other organizations.
